Gregoria Mariska Advances to Round of 16

Gregoria Mariska Tunjung starts the 2021 Indonesia Open against Supanida Katethong. Gregoria won two straight games, 21-16 and 21-15.

Gregoria Mariska Tunjung faces Supanida Katethong in the first round or round of 32 at the 2021 Indonesia Open at the Bali International Convention Center, Nusa Dua, Bali, Tuesday (23/11/2021). Gregoria is currently ranked 25th in the BWF and Supanida 33rd.

Gregoria confirmed his ticket to the last 16 of the Indonesia Open 2021 after winning 21-16 and 21-15.

The first game started, Supanida Katethong invited a quick game. The score is just as strong as 4-4.

Gregoria Mariska played quietly. He was able to lead 9-7 through cross shots which made it difficult for the representative from Thailand. The first interval ended with Gregoria leading, 11-7 after Supanida failed to return the ball.

After the interval, Supanida Katethong tried to catch up. However, several times his punches got stuck in his own net, making Gregoria Mariska a 14-10 lead.

Gregoria plays the tempo and invites a netting game. From there, he back away 17-11.

Supanida has not given up, invites Gregoria to play a long rally. But in the end, Gregoria was determined to close the first game with a score of 21-16 after Supanida’s cross hit stuck in his own net.

The second game, back to a tight match at the beginning with a score of 2-2. Then, Gregoria Mariska moved away three points in a row.

Supanida Katethong still often makes mistakes of her own. On the other hand, Gregoria Mariska Tunjung was able to play patiently even a few times, her lob shot ended out.

Gregoria’s cross smash jump made himself a 10-5 lead, which then shot Supanida again off the field and closed the second interval for Gregoria’s 11-6 lead.

Gregoria Mariska Tunjung returned to playing calmly after the break. He led 14-8, after a close ball return to make Supanida fooled.

Supanida Katethong did not want to give up. Even though he looked tired from playing fast at the start, he kept the tempo and came closer to 11-15.

Instead, it was Gregoria who often made mistakes. So the advantage for Supanida to stick, 13-16.

Gregoria was reluctant to make his opponent approach. Netting game, making it away 19-14.

Gregoria then locked the second game 21-15, after Supanida Katethong’s shot did not penetrate her own net.
