The doctors at Klinikum Rechts der Isar fought for four long hours for the 27-year-old’s life. With success. The operation, it was said at the time, went extremely well. But the doctors were unable to say whether the Bayern star would ever play basketball professionally again.

Zipser’s priorities have changed

Before the intervention, the former NBA professional played perhaps the best basketball of his career and, as a top scorer, played a key role in FC Bayern’s cup success. Despite his surgery, the club extended his contract by three years in July.

However, since the procedure, life priorities have shifted. “Basketball is definitely smaller for me. That doesn’t mean that it is unimportant, but if it doesn’t go well, I could probably forget it sooner,” said Zipser. Health is number one, everything else comes down to fourth place. “I’ve learned that,” said Zipser.
