Edilnol, the first victory has not yet arrived: rossoblù also knocked out in Piacenza

Even on the Via Emilia the spell of the last quarters of Edilnol does not melt. In the presence of Bakery Piacenza it became a real curse, the one that made Morgillo’s muscles out of butter (three mistakes, two of which were on blocks suffered in the final two minutes) and clouded Kenny Hasbrouck’s sight: on -1 at 55 seconds from the end he had stolen the ball that would have brought the rossoblùs in attack for overtaking. He ended up giving it back to the hosts, completing the disaster with a foul on Raivio’s shot. The free of the American ex Urania ended the game early at 71-67 and did not stop the first third of the season without even a joy for Biella. Now there are nine consecutive losses and it is a tiny consolation that Orzinuovi is still stuck at zero, in the downside duel between the Cinderella of the group.

At the duo the quintets do not have strange alchemy: Soviero, Hasbrouck, Pollone, Davis and Morgillo for the guests and Bonacini, Raivio, Lucarelli, the only former Donzelli and Morse for the home team. It is understood that one of the key duels will be the one between Hasbrouck and Raivio who make a steady couple, especially in the Rossoblu defensive half. But if Biella starts keeping the very dangerous American couple of Emilians at bay, it is Lucarelli who turns on the turbo. The 3-7, which is worth the maximum advantage after two and a half minutes, is stopped by a time out by Campanella. At the exit marks only the Bakery: the draw is by Donzelli from the arc, the overtaking (10-8) by Morse from below, Lucarelli’s own minifug from a distance. Biella instead begins a terrible moment right in the offensive phase. After a 3/4 from the field, a terrifying 0/10 arrives and luckily with a couple of throws and an offensive rebound from Davis something manages to fall into the basket of others. But when it happens, Piacenza is already far ahead: 23-12 at the siren.

Zanchi revolutionizes the quintet. The Americans rest for a while, Soviero and Bianchi stay out for a long time, as well as a Morgillo shadow of the dominant one seen with Pistoia. The rudder in hand has Bertetti who, however, does, as often happens, the best things out of pure instinct, such as the triple of 23-15 on the counterattack that opens the scoresheet for the second period. Courage is not lacking even in Vincini: after a shot that does not even touch the iron, he tries another that is worth three points and 25-19. He scores little and he is wrong a lot, Zanchi discusses with the referees who overlook some contact of the home defense (but not enough to explain the many errors from below) but Biella is in its best moment: a triple from Davis (welcome back to his better) and four points in a row by the best Porfilio of the year, good enough to keep Pollone seated, are worth the new -3 on 29-26. But the finish has the stamp of the Bakery, good at exploiting the changes in defense of Edilnol also from the line and with Bonacini’s experience. The home playmaker scores eight points in a row, against three of a triple from the Hasbrouck motorway tollbooth, and at rest it goes to 43-33.

It would take a third quarter fight. Zanchi decides to face him with the starting lineup and the choice pays off because the defense, dragged by a demon-possessed Soviero, raises the barricades. The first two points of the usual Bonacini are the illusion of +12 and an easy path for the home side. The comeback is slow, because the attack continues to make a lot of mistakes (at one point Hasbrouck scored from three hindered more by Morgillo than by his opponents), but at least it is constant. From the arc, the two Americans shortened to -2 at 48-46 when Piacenza found himself almost without long (3 Morse fouls, 4 Sacchettini). But the Emilians somehow manage, including a triple from Lucarelli who does a ballet on the iron before entering, to avoid overtaking. Speaking of heavy mistakes, there is a 2/5 from the foul line by Pollone in the final period to weigh down the rossoblù path: three points less, just like those on the scoreboard at the siren, 58-55.

The last period thus becomes a challenge to those who are more lucid. We would say none, retracing action after action a quarter that from 65-62 (dunk by Davis launched by Hasbrouck) gives almost five minutes in which there is a sheet of glass to seal the baskets, if we exclude a triple of Perin for the +6. The uphill sprint begins 150 seconds from the end: Bianchi’s basket (the only one of the match), ball recovered by Pollone who is fouled in attack, Donzelli’s block to Morgillo, error by Raivio, double error again by Morgillo but ball that Who knows how it ends with Davis who slips the -1 from the arc. There is a minute left. But the end is that of Biella’s hopes, with Hasbrouck’s mess giving two precious points to the Bakery and weighing down the morale of the Rossoblu people with other doubts.
