Become the World Superbike World Champion (WSBK) 2021 of Mandalika Circuit, Toprak Razgatlioglu reveals the story of his special relationship with Jonathan Rea.
Toprak and Rea come to WSBK Mandalika 2021 with the status of two potential world champions. Toprak then ensured the title after finishing second in race 1.
Before becoming competitors, these two racers have had togetherness in the past. Toprak, who was a debutant in WSBK in 2018, had received help from Rea to conquer the Kawasaki ZX-10RR motorcycle.
Even though at that time Toprak and Rea were on different teams. Toprak strengthens the Kawasaki Puccetti Racing team and Rea in the Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK team.
Despite having received help, Toprak did not hesitate to compete with Rea in the fight for the 2021 WSBK champion.
“In the paddock, all the riders dream of beating Johnny, because we know he is so important. It was not easy for me, also because he gave me tips in Kawasaki. But I am now at Yamaha, he no longer gives me [tips],” Kata Earth.
The Turkish racer also revealed that the relationship with Toprak is still well maintained despite the competition on the track.
“We competed a lot this season, and I think it was a good show for the fans. I remember, like at Magny-Cours, when we had a very close duel,” said Toprak, quoted by GPOne.
“In the end I had a good relationship with Johnny on the outside. In fact there was never a conflict between us. We both just wanted to win.”
Toprak became the 2021 WSBK world champion by collecting 564 points, 13 points ahead of Rea. Toprak also ended Rea’s record as the WSBK world champion from 2015 to 2020.
