[Draft NFL] The draft barometer: Aidan’s garden (Hutchinson)

Every Sunday, the editorial staff of TDActu offers you an update on university players. Who performed well and who disappointed? Because it’s never too early to prepare for the 2022 draft, a weekly focused on the individual performance of future NFL players. Only players eligible for the 2022 draft are listed here.

Week 13:

It was Thanksgiving weekend in the USA and therefore Rivalry Week! The vast majority of the posters were superb and the evening / night was magnificent. Especially for some players …

sunny weather

  • Aidan Hutchinson, DE, Michigan : 7 tackles including 3 sacks
  • Breece Hall, RB, Iowa State : 242 yards and 3 touchdowns, 39 yards and 1 touchdown after receptions
  • Roger McCreary, CB, Auburn : 7 tackles and 4 defended passes
  • Jahan Dotson, WR, Penn State : 137 yards et 2 touchdowns
  • Carson Strong, QB, Nevada : 288 yards (17/22) pour 4 touchdowns

In the top game against Ohio State, Michigan’s pass rusher Aidan Hutchinson has, once again, shown why he is considered a candidate for the top 5 of the 2022 draft. Powerful and athletic, yet opposed to offensive tackles with a future in the NFL (Petit-Frere, Munford and D. Jones), he splashed his class into the B1G game of the year. Able to line up like a 43DE or a 34OLB, his NFL potential can make one think of Nick Bosa (49ers) when he was playing in the enemy of Ohio State. More on this formidable player in this podcast dedicated to the pass rushers of the 2022 draft.

Roger McCreary was considered one of the best cornerbacks in college and he passed a test against the receivers of Alabama: test passed. Constantly on his face, he left no space to the receivers yet talented Crimson Tide. He is a possible choice for the 1st round of the 2022 draft. In a talented and relatively homogeneous cuvée at its peak, the receiver Jahan Dotson continues to confirm that he is a candidate for the top 50 and even for the 1st round of the 2022 draft. Explosive and with sure hands, he is a real playmaker. New class performance for the quarterback Carson Strong with very few errors and perfect match management.

First round or not? Taking a runner on Draft Thursday isn’t a popular choice among NFL fans. And this can be justified in several ways. However, having a dominant runner can carry an attack, like the Browns ‘one with Nick Chubb or the Colts’ one with Jonathan Taylor. Breece Hall is of this caliber, that of a rider with superior talent: 20 touchdowns on the ground in 12 games in 2021, 50 in 3 seasons! In addition, he is proving more and more that he can also contribute in the air. Admittedly, his contribution in receptions cannot be compared to that of Austin Ekeler (Chargers) but Breece Hall is also capable in this area. Against Texas Christian he had his 24th consecutive game where he scored at least 1 touchdown!

Mentions :

  • Kenny Pickett, QB, Pitt : 209 yards (28/38) for 4 touchdowns and 1 interception
  • Jayden Daniels, QB, Arizona State : 86 yards (10/14) for 2 touchdowns, 86 yards and 1 touchdown on the ground
  • John Metchie, WR, Alabama : 150 yards
  • Treylon Burks, WR, Arkansas : 129 yards et 1 touchdown
  • Jalen Tolbert, WR, South Alabama : 191 yards et 1 touchdown

  • Kyren Williams, RB, Notre Dame : 74 yards and 2 touchdowns, 20 yards after receptions
  • Tyler Allgeier, RB, BYU : 111 yards and 2 touchdowns, 35 yards after receptions
  • Zach Charbonnet, RB, UCLA : 106 yards and 1 touchdown, 41 yards after receptions
  • Kayvon Thibodeaux, DE, Oregon : 5 tackles including 1 for losses and 3 pressures from QB
  • Myjai Sanders, Edge, Cincinnati : 3 tackles and 3 defended passes
  • Brenton Cox, Edge, Florida : 4 sacks
  • Nik Bonitto, Edge, Oklahoma : 4 tackles including 1 sack
  • Keeanu Benton, DT, Wisconsin : 6 tackles including 2 sacks
  • DeMarvin Leal, DT, Texas A&M : 6 tackles including 1 sack
  • Perrion Winfrey, DT, Oklahoma : 2 tackles for losses
  • Darrian Beavers, LB, Cincinnati : 4 tackles including 1.5 for losses and 1 interception
  • Leo Chenal, LB, Wisconsin : 14 tackles including 1.5 for losses
  • Devin Lloyd, LB, Utah : 9 tackles including 1 sack
  • Ahmad Gardner, CB, Cincinnati : 8 tackles and 2 defended passes
  • Trent McDuffie, CB, Washington : 5 tackles and 2 defended passes
  • Kaiir Elam, CB, Florida : 4 tackles including 1.5 for losses
  • Alontae Taylor, CB, Tennessee : 6 tackles and 1 defended pass
  • Quindell Johnson, S, Memphis : 9 tackles and 1 interception

Rainy weather

  • Nicholas Petit-Frere, OT, Ohio State
  • Phil Jurkovec, QB, Boston College : 19 yards (3/11) for 1 touchdown and 2 interceptions, 66 yards on the ground

Possible choice of the 1st round in 2022, the offensive tackle Nicholas Petit-Frere was completely overwhelmed by Michigan’s pair of pass rushers. Certainly, Aidan Hutchinson and David Ojabo have martyred many other linemen throughout the 2021 season. This match does not condemn Petit-Frere but his status has taken a hit. During the match, his coach flipped him to the right side of the offensive line when he had started on the left. Already embarrassed by an injury during the season, the quarterback Phil Jurkovec is struggling to move up an odds that were relatively high at the start of the season. It’s not his match against Wake Forest that will improve that.

Mentions :

  • Isaiah Spiller, RB, Texas A&M : 27 yards en 11 courses (2,5)
  • Kevin Harris, RB, South Carolina : 13 yards en 8 courses (1,6)

Under the radars

  • Hassan Haskins, RB, Michigan : 169 yards et 5 touchdowns
  • Ronnie Rivers, RB, Fresno State : 65 yards on the ground, 91 yards and 1 touchdown after receptions
  • Jerrion Ealy, RB, Ole Miss : 60 yards on the ground, 43 yards and 1 touchdown after receptions
  • Travis Dye, RB, Oregon : 99 yards and 2 touchdowns on the ground, 39 yards after receptions
  • CJ Brewer, DT, Coastal Carolina : 5 tackles including 2 for losses
  • Jammie Robinson, DB, Florida State : 18 tackles including 1.5 for losses
  • Wilfried Pene, DL, Virginia Tech : 4 tackles

Son of a runner who produced over 3,000 yards on the ground with Fresno State in the early 90s, Ronnie Rivers is a sure bet at university level: 40 career touchdowns on the ground. If his margin for improvement is lower than for other prospects in this position, the fact of playing his fifth season gives him the quality of being ready to contribute immediately to the NFL. Especially in addition to its production on the ground, Rivers also brings in the air: 1,400 career yards and 11 touchdowns. Something to seduce an NFL staff during the last rounds of the draft.

Same size and same double threat for Ole Miss’s runner Jerrion Ealy. This successful baseball player contributes on both phases of an attack. Two years younger than Ronnie Rivers, his draft capital should be slightly higher. Another “double threat” profile with the brother of the Vikings linebacker. Travis Dye is a runner who knows how to wear leather but also to stand out and provide a pass solution. And that appeals to NFL scouts. Coastal Carolina’s defensive tackle against South Alabama CJ Brewer signed his 31st and 32nd tackles inflicting a loss of career yards! Easy then to understand that it is his quality in pocket penetration that should earn him a selection in the draft. Handyman in defense of Florida State, Jammie Robinson should with his activity have his chance in an NFL workforce.

Hassan Haskins is a strong runner, author of 13 touchdowns in 11 games in 2021. Well, but playing a position where there are many runners of his level at the university level, his draft capital is not very high. “The Game” is the annual showdown between Michigan and Ohio State. One of the most watched matches in the country, of the year, all sports combined. So registering 5 touchdowns in a match that kept all of its promises, put Hassan Haskins to his advantage. Passed in 2021 on the defensive side of the ball, the former French tight-end Wilfried Pene signed 4 tackles in the game of the year for his university. His presence in the rotation for a few games augurs well for him in 2022. And if our “barometer” concerns only the players eligible for the draft 2022, this cocorico was well worth an exception.

  • Hendon Hooker, QB, Tennessee : 156 yards (10/18) for 2 touchdowns and 75 yards on the ground

Action of the week

Ohio State receivers Garrett Wilson and Chris Olave feature in the 1st round of all mock drafts. However, they are receivers 2 and 3 of their team! Jaxon Smith-Njigba is too young for the 2022 draft but this 5-star rookie in 2020 has the explosiveness and quality to run the right tracks. Against Michigan, he made a reception to make the NFL scouts salivate: movement, flexibility and concentration.
