Jannik Sinner can look forward to reaching the quarter-finals at his first appearance in the Davis Cup. Although his doubles at Fabio Fognini’s side were lost against Colombia, that didn’t change the Azzurri’s victory.

Shortly before the start of the match against Farah / Cabal, Jannik Sinner prevailed against Daniel Galan despite some mistakes. Surprisingly, the Sesto had to try very hard, due to the aggressive demeanor of his opponent, South Tyrol’s Sportsman of the Year faced several phases of pressure. Due to Sinner’s victory, the quarter-finals for the Azzurri had already been fixed. The subsequent double defeat (2: 6, 7: 5, 6: 7) had no effect.
On Sunday night, Sinner and his partner Fabio Fognini faced the Colombians Robert Farah and Juan Sebastiàn Cabal in doubles. In the first set, Farah / Cabal largely determined the game, the double needed only 34 minutes for the first interim success. While the game only had statistical value for Sinner and Co., every point counted for Colombia in the race with the USA.

The second set was much more varied, but Colombia started the match point for the first time, but it could not be converted. In return, Sinner and Fognini passed and secured the second set. In the decisive third section of the game, three more match points of the Colombians were defused. Nonetheless, Cabal decided the game on the break for Colombia.
The Azzurri around Jannik Sinner are expecting an opponent from Group D in the quarter-finals. Croatia, Australia and Hungary play their chances of progressing against each other.
