Tops

Kevin Volland regains his scoring instinct

Author of the first goal of the game on a serve from Aleksandr Golovin, Kevin Volland was invaluable for the Monegasques in attack. With Wissam Ben Yedder, the German has been able to combine and seems to have found his automatisms with the French international. Dominated in the second act, AS Monaco could count on the defensive efforts of their attacker. Indeed, the number 31 of Monaco Kevin Volland did not balk at defensive tasks to relieve his midfielder.

AS Monaco strong defensively

This year, the Monegasques are struggling to defend well. But against the Basques, the Maripan-Badiashile defensive hinge proved to its advantage throughout the second period. However, the Real Sociedad striker Alexander Isak had succeeded in catching the Franco-Chilean duo by default. But the two central defenders rectified the shot in the second act to allow Alexander Nubel not to concede a second goal. Mission accomplished for the Monegasque defense with the three points at stake;

Flops

Youssouf Fofana sees red

The performance of the young AS Monaco midfielder was perfect until 88e minute .. After a gesture of humor, the former Strasbourger wipes his crampons on Turrientes. Slovak referee Ivan Kruzliak will give him a red card without any hesitation. Scorer just before half-time (38e), the Monegasque environment will have lacked experience at the very end of the meeting. His teammates could have lost two points.

The Basque collective not inspired

Imanol Alguacil’s men lose big on the Monaco lawn. The trip over the rock was not a success for Real Sociedad. Indeed after conceding the opening goal, the Basques immediately reacted by their Swedish striker Alexander Isak. But, resting on its achievements, the Spanish defenders are surprised just before the break. Fofana’s goal will give victory to Monaco. Despite a second half controlled from start to finish, the Spanish players failed to frame a single strike (out of 8 attempts). To qualify, Alguacil’s men will have to win at home against PSV Eindhoven.
