Cycling: Peter Sagan sentenced for attacking police, believing they would force him to get vaccinated

Triple world champion (2015, 2016, 2017), seven times winner of the green jersey of the Tour de France between 2012 and 2019, the Slovakian Peter Sagan is often considered as the rocker of the peloton. Sometimes he also has the attitude.

The runner has just been sentenced to a fine of 5,000 euros, plus a fine of 100 euros for facts dating back to April 25, says VarMatin. That evening, the future rider of the TotalEnergies team is driving through the streets of Monaco where he lives. He does not drive: his brother is behind the wheel. The Slovak, however, goes out on a drunken night and is drunk. The Sagan brothers’ vehicle was then checked in the streets of the Principality. Small detail: Peter Sagan is not vaccinated against Covid at that time.

He fears that the police officers who control him will force him to do so. As the Slovak is not in his normal state, he attacks quickly, and with some violence, the police officers who ask him to get out of the car. A short altercation ensued between the Sagan clan and the Monegasque police forces. One of the police officers was injured in the hand which earned him two days of ITT.

For these facts, the Monegasque justice condemned Peter Sagan to a fine of 5,000 €. As a reminder, with € 5 million in annual income in 2021, Peter Sagan is in the Top 3 of the highest paid runners on the planet. The former Bora-Hansgrohe rider will make his debut under the colors of his new team, TotalEnergies at the Tour of San Juan in Argentina scheduled from January 30 to February 6, 2022. Like the Australian races at the start of the season – like the Tour Down Under – are canceled due to the Covid, several renowned riders will re-enter the Tour de San Juan.
