Creus de Sant Jordi for Pau Gasol, Els Pets, Mònica Terribas and Alexia Putellas

BarcelonaDifferent personalities from sport, culture, communication and activism have been recognized this Tuesday with the Creu de Sant Jordi of the Generalitat awarded by the Government, at the proposal of the Ministry of Culture. Among the 20 personalities and 10 entities that, due to their merits, “have provided outstanding services in Catalonia in the defense of their identity or in the civic and cultural field” are athletes such as Alexia Putellas and Pau Gasol, musical groups such as Els Pets , cartoonists like Francisco Ibáñez, artists like Àngels Ribé and journalists like Mònica Terribas. The Creus de Sant Jordi 2021 are:

Pau Gasol, sportsman, for being a reference in basketball and, by extension, in Catalan sport, and for his contribution to its internationalization.

Alexia putellas, footballer, Golden Ball 2021, for his example as a representative of first-class women’s sport.

Francisco Ibáñez, cartoonist and screenwriter, creator of Mortadel·lo and Filemó, in recognition of his prolific artistic career and for having become a humorous reference for several generations.

Jesus Alturo, paleographer, philologist and historian, for his contribution to the field of paleography, codicology and diplomacy, and his major contributions to the history of medieval literature and art of the Romanesque period of Catalonia.

Mariona Carulla, entrepreneur and cultural promoter, for her work in favor of Catalan culture and her projection at the head of the Associació Orfeó Català-Palau de la Música and the Maria Canals International Music Competition.

Anna Rosa Cisquella, actress and theater producer of Dagoll Dagom, for her contribution to the professionalism and quality of theater in Catalan based on teamwork and from a rigorous and ambitious vision of the performing arts.

Ernest Costa, photographer and naturalist writer, in recognition of his work as a disseminator of the natural heritage of the Catalan Countries.

Joana escobedo, philologist and librarian, member of the literary group Ofèlia Dracs, for her extensive career as a librarian and her specialization in heritage documentation.

Isabel Etxeberria, pedagogue, who at the age of 106 continues to be a reference for many generations, in recognition of his hard-working role in providing our country with its own pedagogy and a consolidated education system, through tenacious personal work which began with his arrival at the Llançà school in 1943, where he taught for 40 years.

Manuel Heredia, Uncle Manuel, social activist, in recognition of his commitment and his long career in defense of the rights and promotion of the Roma people in Catalonia, through various organizations and multiple projects.

Mercè Left, scientist and teacher, in recognition of her long professional career as a scientist and her teaching career in the fields of secondary education, university, teacher training and pedagogical research.

Elena Jaumandreu, film editor, for the excellence of his work as a film editor, “the best editor in the world” according to Orson Welles, with whom he worked on the film Bells at midnight (1965).

Enric Larreula, writer, university professor and illustrator, for his social and cultural activism and for his commitment to the defense of the Catalan language, culture and nation from various fields. His work in favor of the Catalan language in northern Catalonia through the Amics de la Bressola association, of which he was a co-founder, should be highlighted.

Just miller, announcer, communicator and businessman, president of the TeleTaxi group, in recognition of his contribution to the Catalan audiovisual scene, defined by tireless work in various areas of the sector, but especially in those related to the presentation of programs and as a speaker, without forget your facets as an entrepreneur and entrepreneur.

Anna Navarro Descals, an entrepreneur, in recognition of her innovative action in globalization strategies for technology companies, based on philology and the gender perspective.

Joan Panisello, ceramist, in recognition of his career as one of the most prominent creators of ceramic art of our time.

Àngels Ribé, a conceptual artist, in recognition of his career as a conceptual artist, with works to which he has contributed elements of research and experimentation based on the body, geometric space and the natural world.

Monica Terribas, journalist, for his professional career in the field of journalism and mass communication, a field in which he has become a benchmark.

Rafael All, textile entrepreneur, art collector and patron, for his convinced and strategic contributions in favor of Catalan culture, reinforced thanks to the recent donation to the Macba of a thousand works from his private collection of conceptual art and which is the largest donation in history that has been made to this museum facility.

Francesc Vilasís and Fernández-Capallejà, enameller, for its long history as an enameller of international prestige.

The Government has also agreed to award the Creu de Sant Jordi of the Generalitat de Catalunya, in the form of a plaque, to the following entities: Associació Cultural Recreativa Unió Calafina, Associació de Voluntaris de Protecció Civil d’Argentona, Col·legi d’Enginyers Tècnics Industrials de Barcelona, ​​Official Association of Architects of Catalonia, Council of Associations of Nurses of Catalonia, the musical group Els Pets, Escola de Grallers de Sitges, Federació Catalana de Natació, Fundació Catalana de l’Esplai and Catalan Society of Family and Community Medicine.

The Creu de Sant Jordi is one of the highest recognitions a person can receive from the Generalitat de Catalunya. The distinction reaches its 40th anniversary this year. It was created in 1981 with the aim of distinguishing natural or legal persons who, due to their merits, have provided outstanding services in Catalonia. Any citizen, group of citizens or entity can request that this award be given to any person, whether natural or legal.
