Corrientes Básquet closed the regular phase with a defeat

Corrientes Básquet fell to Obras in their seventh game of the Women’s Basketball League. The result was 68 to 57, with a great performance from Julieta Tell (17 points) for the Corrientes, and 15 points from Belén Echeverría and Camila Suárez (10 rebounds) for Obras, who remains second in the general table.

In the first fragment, Obras displayed the game that was expected in the interior, with Suárez as the standard and an 8-2 partial that lasted for more than three minutes without changing. Corrientes Básquet couldn’t find a way to convert until time out. There they made some adjustments and went to rest with the score at 12-9, after several fouls by Obras.

From the beginning of the second there would be greater parity, because the northern team found perimeter responses in Aldana Duarte and Adrianna Murphy, capitalizing on several errors and offenses in attack by the Buenos Aires. However, before the end of this half, Corrientes chained some losses and Echeverría appeared, to make a difference together with Suárez’s contribution and define this segment at 29-23.

The third quarter maintained the trend, with a Dalma Piri improving her field goal percentages despite repeated losses by her team. Sofía Cabrera turned on all the alarms when, due to an accidental collision, she suffered a blow to her head and shoulder, and had to leave to receive medical attention. With just 3 minutes remaining, Julieta Tell converted 7 points again to keep hope from Correntina dying.

At the beginning of the last quarter, Agustina Leiva’s entry into the game stood out, who until now had been well defended. Corrientes got to 4 points, with 6 minutes remaining, but Obras obtained 7 points in practically two plays, and went away again. Piri and Maribel Barzola contributed once again when they entered, as did Julieta Tell, who scored twice from the perimeter and Valentina Numa who was very brave at the end, but it was not enough.

Obras Sanitarias will secure second place in the regular phase if they defeat Quimsa on Monday, while Renato Novatti’s team awaits results to define their position and their rival in the next round. The playoffs will begin the following week, after all games in the regular season are completed.
