Cornellà-El Prat does call up the goals of Raúl de Tomás

Only one Spanish player, Gerard Moreno, has scored more goals than Raúl de Tomás in 2021. The Madrid striker from Espanyol was one of the options that sounded stronger to make up for the loss due to a perpetual point injury in the Spanish team, but finally his dream of playing with the absolute will have to wait. He will be called up, however, with Espanyol, with whom he will play again this Saturday (2pm, M. LaLiga) against Granada after serving a penalty match for the red card he saw against Athletic.

The selection is an award that resists the Spanish striker, who at 27 years old is experiencing a very good moment of strength. So far this year he has scored 17 goals between First (6) and Second (11). Most significantly, he only needed 28 games to reach that figure. There are four other Spanish attacking players who also have 17 goals in 2021: Álvaro Morata and Oyarzabal (both in 52 games), Rafa Mir (in 42) and Ferran Torres (in 40). Only Gerard Moreno surpasses them, with 26 goals in 45 games. Of all of them, only one has been cited by Luis Enrique, Morata. Moreno, Oyarzabal and Ferran are out due to injury, while RDT and Mir have been left out despite being available. “Both are doing well in their respective teams, they were on a prellista and we valued taking them,” said Luis Enrique.

The case of De Tomás is very reminiscent of what Gerard Moreno experienced when he played for Espanyol. The perpetual did not play for the national team until October 2019, a year and three months after leaving the white-and-blue entity to sign for Villarreal. And that in his last two seasons as a Spaniard he had scored 13 and 19 goals, respectively. RDT scored 23 last season and has already accumulated 6 in the current League: only Benzema (9) and Vinícius (7) surpass him.

Granada takes flight

“I was waiting to see the list as if I had to go, summoned; I was excited that Raúl could go with the national team “, commented Vicente Moreno, who made it clear that the Madrid man has the humility and ambition to respect this decision and continue working to remain a possibility. It still has room for improvement. The return of the top is the best news for the coach of Massanassa, who wants to go to the national team stop with a victory against a Granada that has been reborn in the last four days. Two wins (against Sevilla and Levante) and two draws (against Osasuna and Getafe) have placed Robert Moreno’s men just three points behind Espanyol. Four games where, moreover, he has only conceded two goals. Overcome Maximiano, a challenge that requires a specialist, and Raúl de Tomás knows the way.
