The Colombian golfer, Juan Sebastian Muñoz, finished third this Sunday, November 21 at the close of the RSM Classic, tournament of the PGA Tour, which was held since Thursday in Sea Island, Georgia (United States). After the four rounds, the title went to the American Talor Gooch, who obtained his first consecration in the circuit.

In the three days of the event, Muñoz had not gotten off the podium, and even had assumed the lead after the first batch, setting a record 60. Gooch, 30, was in first place since Friday and has not dropped that position since. With 260 hits and four rounds of 64, 65, 67 and 64 for a (-22), was able to celebrate for the first time in his career after participating in 104 tournaments of the PGA Tour.

On the other hand, the bogotano, who arrived on the last day being second place of the general classification, lost his place with the Canadian Mackenzie Hughes, who got a 62 (-8) on the decisive day and a (-19) in the global.

Muñoz made his tour in the field par 70. The start was solid, since in the hole 1 obtained a ‘birdie’, however, the ‘bogey’ that obtained in the hole 5 it diminished the possibilities he had had so far. For him ninth hole made another ‘birdie’, leaving a balance of -1 in the middle of the test. For the final stretch, his shots were more effective, since he took a ‘birdie’ in the holes 10, 14, 15 and 17, which allowed him to culminate with 65 hits in total (-5).

Although the 28-year-old athlete missed the title, he closed the podium in the US tournament with 264 hits (-18), being, in addition, his best result of the season. Recall that at the end of October, this had been fourth in the main group of the ZOZO Championship, nine strokes from the champion, the Japanese Hideki Matsuyama, which closed with 265 hits (-15).

With the result in The RSM Classic, which delivered seven million dollars in prizes, Muñoz had a very important jump in the ranking of the FedEx Cup: went from box 59 to 19 with 313 points and it was consolidated as the best colombian on the circuit. For his part, Gooch climbed to first place with 852 units. Juan Sebastián’s only victory on the PGA Tour took place at the Sanderson Farms Championship 2019.

Who did not have his best performance was Camilo Villegas, as he was eliminated from the tournament on Friday because he could not overcome the cut: the one born in Medellín obtained 70 and 73 in the two rounds he played, taking a global of (+1).

The field record on the first day:

Muñoz’s debut gave something to talk about because, in addition to being the first leader of the contest, he set a record by equaling the 60 strokes that in 2012 the American Tommy Gainey achieved after 8 birdies and an eagle without failure.

The cumulative score of all the players relative to the par in the Seaside Course was -288 strokes, 42 strokes less than the previous record set in 2018.

The average of score of 66,308 is record in the tournament and the second-lowest of any round on the PGA Tour since 1983. The record is 66.28 at Indian Wells in 2003 in the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic.
