Chihuahua.- The coach of the Mexican basketball team, Omar Quintero, arrived in Chihuahua on Sunday afternoon to start the concentration of the players who make up the preselection and who are looking for a place to represent Mexico in the first window of the Qualifiers at FIBA World Cup 2023.
With the support of the Government of the State of Chihuahua, in coordination with the Chihuahuense Institute of Sport and Physical Culture, ADEMEBA and Xoy Capital, Quintero Pereda will start training this afternoon at the Manuel Bernardo Aguirre Gym with the players who are already available, to observe them before making the decision of who will be the 12 that will make up the list that will officially enter the FIBA bubble on November 25.
“Very happy to start this process here, in a completely basketball state, the big state. The truth is that we come with everything, we bring the illusion of taking Mexico to a new World Cup and today this new process begins ”, commented the strategist upon his arrival.
The players who have already arrived in Chihuahua are Jorge Camacho, Irwin Ávalos, the Chihuahuan Esteban Roacho and the FC Barcelona Basket player, Gael Bonilla, who will have his first experience in the senior team. In addition, in the afternoon the pivot Daniel Amigo will be joining.
The rest of the members of the preselection will unite according to the commitments with their teams allowed.
The matches that will take place at the Manuel Bernardo Aguirre Gymnasium are those of Group D, on November 28 the United States against Cuba (3:30 p.m.) and Mexico against Puerto Rico (7:00 p.m.), and on November 29 Puerto Rico will face to Cuba (3:30 p.m.) and Mexico to the United States (7:00 p.m.).
