Champions League: PSG did not tremble in Porto

The very long adventure of the Champions League with its endless group matches led PSG to Portugal this Thursday evening. A week after crushing Porto (34-19) after a defensive demonstration, the Parisians found this same opponent for the return match. The meeting was not as easy as a week earlier. But once again, the Parisians did and did the job well.

The game

Once again, there was no suspense. PSG quickly gained the upper hand so as not to tremble. Very quickly, the Parisians led 4-1 then 6-2. After a quarter of an hour of play, Paris already has a 6-goal lead, 12-6. Barring a disaster, the match is folded. And besides, Porto despite much better arrangements than the previous week, can not return. At the break, PSG has an 8-goal lead (15-23). It’s less than 8 days earlier (18-4) but it’s enough to calmly approach the last half hour. This gap of 8-9 goals remains the same throughout the second half perfectly managed by Paris which ultimately wins 39-30.

The player

Vincent Gérard. He had already been excellent a week earlier. The Olympic champion goalkeeper was still brilliant in Porto, releasing 12 Portuguese shots. The local attackers were however much sharper than at Coubertin 8 days ago. But in front of a Vincent Gérard of the great days, there is not much to do.

The number

9. The number of points that PSG has in the classification of group A of the Champions League. Paris managed the good operation of the evening by moving up to third place in the standings tied with FC Barcelona but with a better goal difference. PSG are just behind the Poles in Kielce and the Hungarians in Veszprem. Kielce will be the opponent of Paris next week and in the event of further success, PSG will once again become a very serious candidate to take the first two places in this group directly qualifying for the quarter-finals.
