Buenos Aires Games: good performance of athletes from Zarate

The Buenos Aires Games culminated and the Zárate delegation managed to place the Municipality in 16th place on the medal table, among the 125 districts of the province that participated.

The competition, which ended on Tuesday, had 10,000 participants from all municipalities in the province of Buenos Aires. With a smaller delegation, given that the categories of older adults and people with disabilities competed in the final virtually, this year the Buenos Aires Games could be held once again, uninterrupted despite the pandemic.

In total, the athletes from Zarate who represented the city in the final in Mar del Plata, obtained 6 gold medals, 3 silver and 4 bronze. The six gold medals achieved were thanks to the excellent performance in Beach Volleyball in the U14 Female category by Bianca Turcitu and Hanna Bentancur. Rowing was the other discipline that took a large part of these achievements, hand in hand with: Matilde Juárez in the Junior Official Female category; Maitena Pay in Sub 14 Promocional Femenino; Marcos Rojas in Junior Official Male; Susana Álvarez in Junior Official Female; Francisco Pagnanelli for U14 Men’s Promotional; and Francisco Moreira in Sub 16 Promotional Male.

On the other hand, the three silver medals came with: María Mercedes Mc Nally in Aquathlon category Sub 16 Women; Sofía Velázquez in Sub 16 Women’s Promotional Rowing; and Julián Zárate in Sub 16 Promotional Male Rowing.

And the four bronze medals were achieved by: Jessica Bravo Copacaba with Women’s University Table Tennis; Agustina Orsini in Junior Official Female Rowing; and the remaining medals for the Men’s Under 17 Basketball team by: Bautista Cosso, Mateo Sacco, Franco Bonelli, Tomas Franco, Theo Criado, Facundo Dovale, Santiago Pattini, Lorenzo Pacheco, Agustín Berón and Gino Sciamanna.

The delegation was received by municipal authorities, who highlighted the good performance of the local youth who represented Zárate. The Director of Sports, Hernán Albertarrio, expressed: “This time, the sports results helped us. We know that we have great material in the different sports in our city, and that today leads us to position ourselves within the 16 best municipalities out of the 135 that participated in this edition ”.

Zárate was also represented in the disciplines of Athletics, Badminton, Men’s 3 x 3 Basketball, Men’s Under 15 Men’s Basketball and Under 16 Women’s Beach Volleyball.

Regarding virtual competitions, Mario Urán also obtained a gold medal in the Photography discipline, single category in Seniors, who expressed with emotion: “I signed up for photography for the first time. I’m going to continue with this, I’m going to sign up again because that’s what I like, it’s my passion ”. And in the Youth categories, Agustina Castaño won a silver medal in Photography, and Luisina Salgado a bronze medal in Storytelling.
