Blessin after the 1-7 thump against Union: “We only get ahead with a positive attitude” | Belgian Football

Belgian footballAfter all the talk at home against Union – 1-7, remember – KV Oostende has to go to Antwerp tonight. Trainer Alexander Blessin realizes that at least one point can bring confidence back to the players.

“This week we had the players in groups make an analysis and presentation about what could and should be improved. The day off was canceled – not to train extra, because the training intensity is right, but to look for answers,” says Blessin. “We also showed video footage of the good moments this season. I don’t feel like the guys are carrying a heavy load in training. Everyone deals with that defeat in their own way: one keeps quiet, the other tries to laugh.”

Communication on the field is also a problem. “Correct, but how many times have we played with the same defense this season? In the previous international break we immediately missed four basic players, that is a lot on a small core. We lack defensive structure. Not every player is a walking speaker, but everyone needs to take a little more responsibility. We have to focus on the next six games before the winter break, so not just Antwerp. Maybe we should stop ‘playing’ football and ‘work’ football. No, after the match against Union I didn’t yell or yell. Why would I do that? We were just bad. We will only get there with clear analyzes and a positive attitude.”
