Big Danish downturn: Couple loses final at French Open | BT Badminton

Badminton players Mathias Christiansen and Alexandra Bøje played finals on Sunday at the Super 750 tournament French Open.

A victory would be the biggest of his career, but the Danes unfortunately lost 2-0 in sets to Yuta Watanabe and Arisa Higashino from Japan.

The mixed doubles pair got off to an excellent start on the first set, where they came out ahead 4-3. After this, the gas unfortunately went off the Danish balloon, and the Japanese won the set 21-8.

The second set was just to begin with, and Mathias Christiansen and Alexandra Bøje followed until 7-7. Then the favorites from Japan pulled away again.

The set ended 21-17 in favor of Yuta Watanabe and Arisa Higashino. The Danes fought bravely and survived the first two of five match balls.

Despite the defeat, the Danes had a surplus to a little smile at the subsequent award ceremony. Yuta Watanabe and Arisa Higashino have earlier this season won the Denmark Open.

The Japanese spent just 34 minutes early on Sunday night defeating their opponents from Denmark.

However, the defeat does not change the fact that it has been one of the greatest achievements of his career to reach a final at this level.

It was the pair’s first final as a pair in a tournament at the Super 750 level, ranking just below the biggest tournaments such as All England.
