BG Göttingen fails due to the individual class of FC Bayern

FC Bayern Munich was one size too big for BG Göttingen on Sunday: The German Cup winner won the basketball Bundesliga in front of 3313 spectators in the Sparkassen-Arena, which was not completely sold out, with 80:66 (34:33). Bayern had pulled the teeth of passionately fighting BG at the end of the third quarter in their best phase.

In the absence of Bayern head coach Andrea Trinchieri, who stayed at home sick and acted on the sidelines for assistant coach Slaven Rimac, Kamar Baldwin missed a free lay-up at the beginning, but the first points still belonged to the host: Philipp Hartwich was on Tip-in successful and brought a beautiful action by Stephen Brown to an end.

At 5-0, the BG fans were in a party mood for the first time, because Mathis Mönninghoff was successful from the corner. Mönninghoff’s special motivation: He would have needed ten points on Sunday to achieve his 1,500th BBL counter. In the end there were three.

Bavaria: Weiler-Babb (7/1/5/5), Thomas (18/2/4/4), Walden (0/0/0/1), Obiese (0/0/0/0), Jaramaz (4/0/3/2), George (2/0/2/0), fruit (11/3/4/0), Djedovic (15/1/4/0), Rubit (10/0/7 / 3), Ogunsipe (0/0/0/0), Hilliard (6/2/2/3), Schilling (7/0/4/2). – Team values: field throws 29/55 (53%), threesomes 20/33 (61%), free throws 13/24 (54%), rebounds 39 (9 off./30 def.), Assists 20, ball losses 13, fouls 23 .

This was followed by the response of the guests, who rotated after the two victories in the EuroLeague during the week, but nevertheless brought a strong squad onto the floor due to the low squad – and fast-paced basketball, which the BG was initially unable to cope with. After a 13-0 series and throws by the BG Guards who didn’t want to fall, the German Cup winner led 13-5, and Veilchen head coach Roel Moors took the time-out (7th).

The trick worked, and BBL top scorer Kamar Baldwin scored for three. But Göttingen still did not get proper access in defense, which led to simple counterpoints. Once again it was Jake Toolson, who guaranteed the points, who scored for three, and the BG went into the second quarter with a slightly more moderate 15:21 deficit.

When Hartwich messed up the first free throw at the beginning of the second round, collective head shaking began – but not because of Hartwich, who hit the second, but because almost nothing went on the line here and there. The violets adjusted themselves better and better to Bayern, and at the end of the round after spectacular actions by Baldwin, Zack Bryant and James Dickey, among others, it was only 33:35 – one thought: The arbitral tribunal corrected a decision from the initial phase, and it was only 33:34.

In the third section, the BG even took the lead with 38:37 thanks to Zack Bryant’s artful shot (25th), but because Deshaun Thomas subsequently demonstrated his world class for Bayern, it remained an episode. When Gaven Schilling pulled out an ultimately successful “and one” to lead the guests 50:42 in a super move, the game seemed to have tipped again in favor of the cup winners, especially since the BG left too much (18th). But a three from Baldwin and two successful free throws from veteran Harper Kamp after an unsportsmanlike foul by Schilling let the violets come back to 47:50.

But then Bayern played their individual skills, especially sniper Andi Obst, who sank three threes in a row. Bayern also put the finishing touches behind the third quarter, who said goodbye to 60:47 in their best phase until the end of the round. It was not the end of the run: Munich scored 15: 0 points to make it 65:47, before Brown put an end to the ghost with a lay-up to 49:65 (34th).

In the middle of the final section it was 67:49 for Bayern after further points from the strong Thomas, and the fans knew: This game was over – the guests, who led with more than 20 points at 72:51 for the first time and Moors on time-out, acted too confidently forced (37th). In the end, the favorite deservedly prevailed thanks to his strong individual players who triumphed in tight situations.

Afterwards, Rimac described the success as a “team victory”. And: “In the end we had better quality and good energy.” In contrast, a frustrated Moors stated: “We never really believed in our chance.” Ultimately, the difference in quality was very large – the Belgian also annoyed the throwing rate . “We made bad decisions, and we actually know the qualities of fruit.”
