Sport

There are new developments in the betting scandal in the Regionalliga Ost. The accused goalie of SC Neusiedl, who is currently one of nine suspects and is in custody, has made a confession. He wants to cooperate with the investigators, as his lawyer confirmed to the ORF Burgenland.

The SC Neusiedl goalkeeper is said to have manipulated four games with moderate performance, three of them in the dress of the Neusiedl team, in order to enable betting wins in the Asian region. Now he was cooperative and confessed to the Graz public prosecutor, as his lawyer Paul Kessler said: “He simply decided for himself that football is over, this chapter is closed. He made an incredibly serious mistake, that is also the point of no return. If you say yes to the wrong people here, you know there’s no going back. How this process will turn out cannot be estimated either. He made the decision: he is cooperative, he made a mistake, and he stands by the mistake. And that’s the only thing you can do right in the situation. “

International network

Overall, his client is only a small fish in this betting scandal case, according to the lawyer: “There is, as is well known, an international network that makes sure that players are found who can influence the results. And that’s exactly what happened. One of the key players in this act is the father of a player. He organized it in the background on one level and then there is another level above. He then phoned through. It is clear that goalkeepers are the first point of contact because they are of course the easiest way to influence a game. ”The goalkeeper is one of the four accused who are currently in custody. And, as his lawyer said, he shouldn’t be the only one who confessed.

Between two and four thousand euros are said to have been paid per game. The investigation is now on account of serious fraud, explained attorney Kessler. Due to the difficult financial situation in connection with the pandemic, his client allowed himself to be carried away to support his family.
