Archery: The discipline now “compulsory sport”

From now on classified as a “compulsory” sport, archery will be present at the Solomon Games, in 2023, and all those which will follow, in particular those of Tahiti, in 2027.

Previously classified as an “optional” discipline, during previous editions of the Pacific Games, archery will now be a “compulsory” sport, from the next Games scheduled for the Solomons, in 2023, and for all those who will follow, including of course those from Tahiti, in 2027.

To prepare for it, the Tahitian Archery Federation, chaired by Didier Gras, is working hard. The objective is indeed, initially, to re-motivate the workforce who had, as one might suspect, deserted Pater’s firing point during the health crisis.

Since then, and after two “blank” months, in August and September, with a trip to Huahine and the first competitions of the season canceled, the shooters are back. The season was finally able to start the launch of the traditional Coupe de Tahiti Outdoor, therefore outdoors, followed by the Halloween Shooting, on November 13.

Not at the 2022 Mini-Games

Two events are on the calendar for next month, namely the Christmas Shooting, on Saturday December 4, followed by a new stage of the local Cup, in the open air, the next day.

Then the 2021-2022 season will resume in January and end with the Outdoor Championship in June. A beautiful program which, we hope, will not be hampered by a resumption of the epidemic, which would mark a halt that nobody wants.

Because if archery will not be present at the 2022 Mini-Games, initially scheduled, from June 17 to 25, in Saipan, in the Northern Mariana Islands, and finally decayed at the end of that same year, the objective for 2023, in the Solomons, will be to make a success, which would bode very well for 2027.

Tahiti, host country for the 3e times in its history, will indeed aim to win the Games that it will organize on its soil.

And there we must not miss its targets. So as much to say that it is high time to learn to aim well, in particular by preparing now the generations which are likely to participate, in accordance with the wish mentioned by the Minister in charge of Youth and Sports, Heremoana Maamaatuaiahutapu.
