An exhibition to remember Joe Di Maggio, the greatest baseball player

On the occasion ofanniversary of the birth of Joe Di Maggio, the Associations BCsicilia, Isola-Pittsburg Forever, the Onlus Coast Guard Auxiliary and Mikifrà Alab of Cinisi, recall with an exhibition the greatest baseball player of all time, whose parents were originally from Isle of Females.
The Joe Di Maggio House Museum in via Cutino, 14 in Isola delle Femmine will be open from 25 to 28 November 2021 from 9:30 to 13:00. Mikifrà Alab will present an interpretation of the dress worn by Marilyn Monroe on the day of her wedding with Joe Di Maggio which took place in the San Francisco City Hall.

The president of the local branch of BCsicilia Agata Sandrone, together with the essayist Carmelo Fucarino and the writer Antonino Matranga, on November 26th they will meet the boys of the Istituto Comprensivo Francesco Riso of Isola delle Femmine, who, in addition to the story of Joe Di Maggio, will be able to view some photos of island fishermen who emigrated between the end of the nineteenth century and the first decades of the twentieth century chasing the American dream.

It all began on 9 December 1897 when Joe Di Maggio’s parents, originally from Isola delle Femmine, married in the church of the town Maria Santissima delle Grazie, their first daughter Adriana was born in Isola on 11 September 1898. The father was not he was present because he had left with a group of fishermen for America, specifically in California, to see if that was a land that would improve their lives. In 1902 the whole family moved to Martinez. Giuseppe Di Maggio and Rosalia Mercurio in America will have another 8 children, the penultimate born on 25 November 1914, will be called Giuseppe Paolo Di Maggio, in English Joseph Paul Di Maggio, for all Joe Di Maggio, baseball champion of the 30s and 40s and husband first of Dorothy Arnold and then, even if for a year, of the unforgettable Marilyn Monroe.
