by archysport

Winner of the European final, Morikawa becomes the first American to win the Race to Dubai.

Collin Morikawa, world No. 2, ended a memorable year with a double: victory in the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai, and first place in the final standings of the European golf circuit, which no American does. had succeeded again.

Leading the “Race to Dubai” before this grand final, thanks in particular to his victory this summer at the British Open, the 24-year-old attacked the last lap in a waiting position, tied for 5th with three strokes behind. Rory McIlroy.

Faithful to his budding legend, the former world number 1 amateur, in 2018, was unperturbed from start to finish, until signing a card of 66 synonymous with absolute victory, in the tournament and in the standings of the season, with at the end of the day, several million dollars in prizes.

On the other hand, McIlroy, in the lead on Saturday night and who was delighted with this last round under pressure, completely cracked, once again: his card of 74 made him fall to 6th place tied, very far from the level that he had during his last victory in Major, in 2014.

Final classification of the DP World Tour Championship after the 4th and last round played on Sunday on the Jumeirah course (par 72):

1. Collin Morikawa (USA) -17 (68-68-69-66)

2. Matthew Fitzpatrick (ENG) -14 (70-69-69-66)

. Alexander Björk (SWE) -14 (68-67-69-70)

… etc.
