In the hot seat for several days, Luke Walton will not have survived the Kings’ latest loss. Admittedly, it was against the Jazz, but it was especially the 7th in eight matches, and the leaders decided to cause an electric shock by separating from them. It’s going to cost them dearly since Luke Walton was under contract until 2023, but since arriving in 2019, the franchise is still not taking off.
After his failure at the Lakers, former assistant Steve Kerr did no better at the Kings with 68 wins for 93 losses, and since his early career as a “head coach”, he has never reached the playoffs.
Despite the repeated support of his players, he takes the door and Alvin Gentry, his first assistant, will replace him immediately as interim coach. The other lead considered by the franchise led to Doug Christie, a former franchise legend, who became an assistant at the start of the season.
Sources: Alvin Gentry will become the Kings’ interim coach. Gentry is already under contract through 2022-2023, gets a raise to take interim job and agreement on some benchmarks of success rest of this season with team to try and keep job longer.
