After joke penalty at Werder – Schalke: DFB causes the next scandal! – Bundesliga

As if the joke penalty for Bremen against Schalke wasn’t bad enough. In terms of work-up, the DFB puts another embarrassment on top.

The day after the laughing act, the referee bosses go to the diving station. Again The tactic after their referees have made a mistake in the regional league is always the same: sit out. It is best not to comment at all.

In regular workshops between the referee bosses and journalists, referee boss Lutz Fröhlich and video boss Jochen Drees preach and praise the great, important and respectful mutual exchange.

But when it comes down to it: silence on all fronts. Unfortunately, this pattern has been recognizable for a long time. Calls are not answered. Callback requests ignored. The exchanges degenerate into a farce, we can save time in the future if things go like this.

And Witzelfer referee Tobias Stieler? He leaves his cell phone off completely the day after the mega-buck. Better safe than sorry.

It works differently: Character referees like ex-referee Manuel Grafe or Deniz Aytekin (most recently with the yellow-red card for Dortmund’s Dahoud) do what the public can rightly expect of them: They took a stand on dubious ones Decisions and mistakes.

But you have to have a little understanding: For Stieler it would be an almost weekly and compulsory event …

On Sunday afternoon the pressure on the referee bosses was probably too great due to many inquiries, they published an “interview” on the DFB homepage.

Significant: Neither Fröhlich nor Drees can be quoted. The “sporting management of the elite referees” provides all the answers to the questions. Did the ladies and gentlemen sing these answers in unison? After all: it was gendered dutifully. That is of course important.

Even if it is admitted in this pseudo-interview that video referee Christian Dingert would have better not interfered – one aspect is completely missing!

The “sporting management of the elite referees” does not mention a single word that FIFA (!) Referee Stieler had watched the scene in Bremen for minutes on the monitor, then came to the conclusion that it was a penalty. No criticism of him and his incredibly wrong assessment – only the VAR, which of course would have been better off.

That’s the true scandal. Stieler is, at least officially, one of the best referees in Germany.

If he thinks that Bremen is a 911 – then good night …
