A new manager for the Padres

The San Diego Padres confirmed on Monday that Bob Melvin will now take over as manager of the club.

Several media had already announced the identity of the 22nd manager in the history of the organization, Thursday. Managing Director AJ Preller formalized the three-year contract.

Melvin, 60, was at the helm of the Oakland Athletics last season. If the organization he led since 2011 had exercised the option year that was in his contract for 2022, she still accepted that he discusses with the Padres.

“Bob is one of the best managers in the sport and brings a tremendous wealth of knowledge and an impressive track record in the big leagues,” Preller said in a statement. In 18 seasons as a major baseball driver, Melvin maintained a 1346-1272 record with the Seattle Mariners, Arizona Diamondbacks and A’s, being named manager of the year three times. At the Padres, the newcomer will replace Jayce Tingler, who was fired after the club’s stampede during the last campaign.

Despite the presence of top players like Fernando Tatis Jr. and Manny Machado, San Diego concluded with a 79-83 record this year.
