361st club goal: Karim Benzema erases Thierry Henry’s record and enters a little more into the history of French football

In a period when figures of all kinds can take on a more or less legitimate weight, certain historical brands have a very particular weight. In exceptional form, Karim Benzema is not only in one of the most prolific periods of his career.

This thunderous start to the season has been a continuation of excellence at the highest level for many seasons already. To the point that the Real Madrid striker signs historic records. Thanks to his 11th goal of the season in La Liga this Sunday against Sevilla FC, the French international has become the top French club scorer (in all competitions) in the history of France. Just that.

361 goals with only two clubs

His 361st goal, following an uncertain parade by Sevillian goalkeeper Yassine Bounou, allowed him to overtake Thierry Henry, author of 360 club achievements, and until then holder of the best mark. Karim Benzema scored his 295th goal for Real Madrid on Sunday (in 577 matches), after his 66 with Olympique Lyonnais at the start of his career.

In detail, Karim Benzema wrote:

  • 203 goals in the League
  • 76 in the Champions League (64 with Real Madrid, 12 with OL)
  • 43 in Ligue 1
  • 22 in Copa del Rey
  • 9 in the Coupe de France
  • 3 in the Spanish Super Cup
  • 3 in the Club World Cup
  • 1 in the League Cup
  • 1 in the UEFA Super Cup

Karim Benzema will now dream of a first Golden Ball for a few more hours, before tackling another historic brand of French football. He only points to 14 goals from the historic record for top scorer in France, again the possession of Thierry Henry with 411 units (against 397 for the Madrid center forward), well helped by his 51 achievements for the France team.
