192 athletes will represent Venezuela in the Junior Pan American Games

This Friday, from the headquarters of the Venezuelan Olympic Committee (VOC), the delegation of Venezuela was officially presented and will be present at the first Junior Pan American Games Cali – Valle 2021.

The activity was headed by the president of the COV, Eduardo Álvarez; the Minister of Popular Power for Sports, Mervin Maldonado; the Chief of Mission and Secretary General of the COV, Dr. Elida Párraga; and the Pdta. from the National Institute of Sports, Ninoska Clocier.

“This is the road to Paris 2024. Venezuela closed its classification with 196 athletes, four of them will not be able to attend: three swimmers and a boxer. These Games open the door to Paris 2024. We are sure that the vast majority of these athletes will form the base of Venezuela for the Bolivarian, South American and Central American Games starting next year. In addition, the champions of Cali will have their safe place in the adult Pan American Games of Santiago 2023, ″ said Álvarez.

The president of the COV recalled that these Games arise as an initiative of PanamSport to increase the number of athletes classified to the upcoming Youth Olympic Games and, therefore, to the elite Olympic Games in Paris 2024.

«These Games coincide for Venezuela with the awakening of a new generation and the beginning of an Olympic cycle. This is very important for the country, for everyone. We must be very attentive to the new figures of Venezuelan sports ».

Biosecure delegation

In his speech, the Minister of Popular Power for Youth and Sports, Mervin Maldonado, reported that the entire delegation, made up of 309 people, is fully vaccinated against the COVID 19 pandemic.

“We accompany athletes, coaches, delegates and officials in all possible biomedical processes to guarantee their protection, following all international protocols,” Maldonado stressed.

The head of the sports portfolio pointed out that in Cali there are already the karate, canoeing and judo delegations, teams that arrived after completing their preparation bases in Táchira, Cojedes and Spain, respectively.

Flagged and ready

Katherine Echandia (weights) and Luisangel Acuña (Baseball), flag bearers of the delegation, shared their impressions in the run-up to the great junior sport event in America.

I’m ready to eat the world on that platform. I trust a lot in myself, in my talent and in strength. I know that we are going to give the best of each one of us “, visualizes Echandia, who arrives in Cali as Olympic starter in Buenos Aires 2018 and current holder of the Sub 20 continental record.

Acuña Jr., meanwhile, spoke on behalf of the U23 Baseball World Champion team this year in Sonora, Mexico.

«It is my first international experience representing Venezuela and that makes me very excited and proud. I am happy and I am very confident that the entire delegation will do a good job and we will leave the name of Venezuela high ».

The first advance of the delegation will depart this November 20 to Cali and will be made up of the mission headquarters headed by Dr. Elida Párraga, members of the COV and the National Sports Institute.

The second outpost will be made up of artistic gymnastics and diving athletes, as well as personnel from the COV, IND and the medical team.
