Cologne’s superstar Anthony Modeste (33) is not only cheering from goal to goal (8 goals) in the Bundesliga. The French simply meet where and when they want – even on bare ice.
No joke! Coach Steffen Baumgart (49) sent his stars yesterday to the home of the Cologne ice hockey cracks and let them play slide football. In the sharks’ full gear but without ice skates, Modeste, Hector and Co. kicked each other on ice in the KEC training hall and against the trainer and functional team.
“We tried to get our thoughts off normal football a bit. We managed to do that very well, ”says Baumgart.

Only the journey was not very fun: As slippery as it was on the ice, the tour was bumpy. Because the bus had initially stopped at the wrong hall. A perplexed cashier at the Lentstrasse ice rink had to send Baumgart and his stars to Kölnarena 2 across the Rhine.
Transport suitcase, drinking boxes and rucksacks out. Then put all the luggage back in at the end. The boys did not let their mood be taken away by the involuntary stopover.

On the Haie-Eis, the mini-tournament (3 teams) got down to business – even the obligatory ice-beating scenes were inevitable. And in the end, once more Modeste cheered with the FC oldies.
Together with Hector, Uth, Andersson, Kainz, Schindler, Schmitz and keeper Timo Horn, Modeste won the ice cream and even showed his glasses jubilation. The trainers and the functional team came in third.
