It is an era when health-related content fills various media, and women are also gaining muscle through intense exercise instead of dieting. However, there are still limits to women’s health care.

According to the results of the National Sports for Life Survey released by the Korea Sports Association in December last year, the proportion of women who answered ‘I am healthy (very healthy, on the healthy side)’ out of 9,000 people aged 10 and over who responded to the survey was 69.8 %, which was lower than that of men (77.7%). The number of women who answered ‘I have good physical strength (very good, I am good)’ was also 57.2%, which was a big gap with men (68.9%).

In addition, 7.1% of women who responded that they had had physical or mental problems in the past month were significantly higher than men (5.1%). In particular, the response rate of women in their 30s (9.5%), when childbirth and childrearing began in earnest, was higher than that of women in their 70s (8.6%). It was followed by women in their 50s with 8.5% and women in their 40s with 7.4%.

On the other hand, the age group with the highest response rate among men was in their 40s (6.8%). This means that women of all ages experienced physical and psychological problems more often than men. For the same reason, the average period of disruption in daily life was 5.7 days for women and 4.3 days for men.

Not only this. Although more women are more interested in and curious about physical education, men are more active in regular activities in sports clubs. Men engage in club activities in various sports such as soccer, futsal, golf, swimming, mountain climbing, badminton, table tennis, and tennis, while women have a limited range of sports such as golf, swimming, yoga and Pilates.

In order to close this gap, the Korea Sports Council has been focusing on supporting women’s sports and health promotion activities since the beginning of this year. In particular, it focuses on distributing lifestyle sports of appropriate intensity for pregnant, child-raising, child-rearing, and menopausal women. An official from the Sports Association said, “Korean women, especially women during pregnancy, childbirth, and child-rearing, feel the need for physical education, but they lack leisure time and do not have many opportunities to participate, so it is difficult for them to participate in sports activities regularly.” I also felt the need to change the social perception that looked at it from a negative perspective.”

Developed countries, including the UK, have already made the ‘increase in sports participation rate of women and the socially disadvantaged’ as a basic principle of their national sports policy. A good example is ‘I Will If You Will’, a project to promote women’s sports participation in Manchester, England.

The Sports Association is also working hard to provide a variety of customized programs for each age and situation of domestic women. For example, we propose an exercise program that can have a positive effect on prevention of obesity and edema for women immediately after childbirth, and develop a hybrid form of physical education program that combines face-to-face and non-face-to-face for women who are sensitive to health issues due to the spread of COVID-19. way to do it In fact, last year, the Sports Association produced and distributed a total of 50 online contents in dance sports, gymnastics, aerobics, and mountain events, and the cumulative number of views exceeded 120,000.

The goal of the Sports Council is to stably operate women’s life sports classes in 180 places nationwide by the end of this year. Also, 10% of this amount will be dedicated to women from multicultural families who have migrated to Korea. In addition, a low-intensity gymnastics program was developed in connection with about 10 large hospitals for female patients who have difficulty exercising due to physical limitations. The era is approaching when women who are raising children and women who are sick can exercise freely.
