Verstapen wins the US Grand Prix and increases his lead in the overall standings / Article

Verstapen’s race started in first place and in the first row next to him was a competitor in the fight for the title of Lewis Hamilton from “Mercedes”.

At the start, Hamilton took a better position in the first turn, forcing the competitor to get off the track a bit. The British left first and were followed by both Red Bull pilots Verstapen and Serhio Perez.

Verstapen followed Hamilton closely behind and took the lead after the first punching. The pilots continued in the opposite roles, as Hamilton chased after Verstapen, keeping the Dutch leader in the lead after the second pit stop.

In the final laps of the race, Hamilton approached Verstapen more and more, and in the last lap they were separated by less than one second. However, Verstapen managed to stay ahead and win, the second was Hamilton and the third was Perez.

Behind the first three was Charles Lecleri (“Ferrari”), the fifth place was taken by Daniel Rikjardo (“McLaren”), and the first six was finished by Walter Botass (“Mercedes”). Next was Carlos Sainne Jr. (“Ferrari”), eighth finished Lendo Norris (“McLaren”), ninth place went to Juki Cunoda (“AlphaTauri”), and last to the point was Sebastian Vettel (“Aston Martin”).

Hamilton has won in Austin five times and Verstapen once.

After 17 stages, Verstapen is in the first place with 287.5 points, 12 points ahead of Hamilton. Botass is in a stable third place with 180 points, the fourth with 150 points is Perez, who is only one point ahead of Noris.

The Mercedes team is the first in the constructors’ cup with 460.5 points, but the Red Bull pilots have scored 437.5 points.

In 2020, the seventh F-1 title in his career and the fourth in a row was won by the British Lewis Hamilton from Mercedes. Previously, only the legendary German driver Michael Schumacher managed to win seven times. The Mercedes team also won the seventh Constructor’s Cup in a row.

This season, a record number of races were originally planned (23), but at the end of August it became clear that the planned stage would not take place in Japan. For this reason, 22 F-1 stages will be completed this season.
