Van Gaal and Dumfries about being whistled at Berghuis: ‘I think I don’t pay attention’

The flute concerts at the expense of Steven Berghuis during the Netherlands-Gibraltar were also discussed during the press conference afterwards. However, Louis van Gaal and Denzel Dumfries did not want to make the incident bigger than it was.

USanalyst Rafael van der Vaart said afterwards from De Kuip that he had been disturbed by the whistle. Van Gaal was also asked about it during the press conference, but shrugged his shoulders. “What do I think? Well… I myself have also been the target of noises, here in the Feyenoord stadium”, said the former coach of Ajax and AZ, among others. “That’s only a limited number of people and I don’t think you should pay that much attention to that.”

Dumfries had noticed in the field that part of the audience was after his flank mate. “Of course you get that, but I think Steven always shows that he is professional. Of course you knew in advance that it could happen. Anyway, as a football player, I don’t think he was bothered by that.”

The suggestion that the Orange internationals should make a statement is pushed aside by the right back of Internazionale. “I don’t think that is necessary,” said the born Rotterdammer. “Good, he made the switch, that is of course sensitive in Rotterdam. But I think you could see today (Monday, ed.) that he is not bothered by it and that Steven is stoic and an optimal professional.”
