Bayern Munich’s ex-president Uli Hoeneß has confirmed considerations that he wanted to bring Freiburg coach Christian Streich to FCB.

Uli Hoeneß has confirmed that he had toyed with the idea of bringing Freiburg coach Christian Streich to Bayern Munich.

“I love that. And I thought for a while whether it wouldn’t be for us,” said Hoeneß in the ‘Sunday Breakfast’ podcast by Antenna Bavaria.

Streich is also the reason why the honorary president of FC Bayern would even grant SC Freiburg the championship title, “because their coach is such a fantastic person whom I would treat everything”.

Christian Streich has been a Freiburg trainer since 2011

Streich has been the head coach of Breisgau since the end of December 2011, with the 56-year-old the sports club even relegated to the 2nd division in 2015, but Freiburg stuck to Streich.

He is now an absolute cult figure and popular figure in the Bundesliga and is also the longest-serving coach in the European top 5 leagues. He recently renewed his contract with SC. The Freiburg-based company did not provide any information about the duration.

The coach also shares the sympathies Hoeneß has for Streich with FC Bayern. “I’m not ashamed, I was a Bayern fan,” he said in an interview with Sport1 last year.
