Tournament of Saints, when basketball has no age. Making basketball a sport accessible to everyone and spreading the Golden Players Method to young basketball players. This is the goal of “Golden Players Italia”, an association born from the intuition of president Virgilio Marino and from the organizational drive of Paolo Maltinti. Coordinating a staff of capable enthusiasts, they have been fighting since 2018 to find a point of union between the old and new generations in love with the wedged ball. At the base there is the idea of ​​creating a real “Golden Players Method” through the involvement of former players who have been successful in sport and in life. A method that carries on and “sponsors” a lifestyle inspired by healthy values, on and off the pitch, and which has as a concrete example the many former players who have joined the project.

Today the Golden Players are a group of over 400 “Over 50” athletes with important sporting achievements behind them and who have achieved success in private life thanks to the teachings of sport. Through their example, they want to send a strong message to young basketball players by sharing their technical knowledge and their sport and life experience. Spread positive examples and at the same time keep having fun on and off the pitch by organizing tournaments and events.

Tournament of Saints

The “ASD Flyers”, a sports association operating along Lake Trasimeno and in the neighboring territories, has fully embraced the objectives of the Golden Players. from this collaboration the “Tournament of Saints“, that Saturday 30th, Sunday 31st and Monday 1st November will host a hundred athletes from Rome, Milan, Bologna, Naples, Livorno, Caserta, Jesi and obviously from Umbria, to represent some of the centers that over the years have made the history of basketball in Italy. With an approach that combines the values ​​of sport with the opportunities of sports tourism, the tournament aims, among other things, to present to the participants the beauties and excellence of the municipalities that host it, in an area between Tuscany and Umbria. which lends itself well to this type of events for structures, hospitality, landscape, historical and culinary richness.

The program

There will be 8 teams that will face each other in single elimination. Saturday 30 October the quarter-finals which will take place in the buildings of Chianciano and Città della Pieve between 12 and 18: then transfer to the Agriturismo Poggio Santa Maria, in the territory of Castiglione del Lago between Gioiella and Vaiano, where it will be held at 18:45 a press conference followed, at 7.30 pm, by the draw for the semifinals and at 7.45 pm by a “wine tour” with tasting of wines and typical local products. Sunday 31 semifinals in Chianciano and Città della Pieve at 9:30 and 11:30; in the evening tournament dinner at the Fortuna Resort in Chianciano. Monday 1st November the finals from 9 in Città della Pieve and from 10 in Chianciano with awards and greetings.

Ageless basketball

The Golden Players throughout Italy organize days of basketball and fun for both the “Over 50” and for the children and teenagers involved in the free internships held before the competitions by the Golden Players. In the near future there are many ideas to be implemented and events to be organized, such as the IV “Campania Over 50 Conference” which will start in March 2022. The primary objective is, however, to expand the base with Golden Players Club throughout Italy, thus creating of the territorial bodies in support of regional conferences and national and international events for representatives Over 50, 55, 60 and 65. This is how Piero Giani’s Golden Players Caserta, Paolo Maltinti’s Golden Players Livorno, and the Golden Players Rome led by Alessandro Mechelli, Luca Magni from Prato, Maurizio Secchi, Carlo Sigillo and Roberto Vismara from Milan, Fabio Gorga in Sala Consilina, Renato Bonanno in the Flegrea area, Maurizio Lorusso from Foligno, Castiglione del Lago with Matteo Cardinali and Max Jovane, with Fabio Giuffra in Genoa, Graziano Bracali and Max Midulla in Bologna, Luca Allegrini in Jesi and in many other cities that are joining the project. Involvement of former players and fans, dissemination of the project, partnerships with sports clubs, institutions and sponsors, organization of events and moments of sharing Golden Players values. This is what the association has set out to achieve and for which it has already set to work with passion and energy.
