Thomas Tuchel (48) is currently one of the best coaches in the world. The former BVB and Mainz coach recently won the Champions League and the Uefa Supercup with Chelsea.
But even before that, he was no less successful. At Sheikh Club Paris St. Germain he won the French championship and the Super Cup twice between 2018 and 2020 as well as the league cup and cup with BVB, and in 2017 he celebrated the DFB Cup victory.
The superstars of the respective teams played a large part in these successes. N’Golo Kanté (30) and Jorginho (29) at Chelsea, Neymar (29) and Kylian Mbappé (22) at PSG or Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (32) and Ousmane Dembéle (24) at BVB.
How he deals with such superstars, Thomas Tuchel now revealed at the Festival dello Sport a Trento, which was organized by the Italian sports newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.

“A coach has to be direct and honest, be clear about what he expects from players and be open. Mbappé and Neymar in Paris or Kanté and Lukaku (switched to Tuchel in the summer, Anm. d Red.) To train at Chelsea and convince them to make one or the other tactical switch has to be attempted by the power of ideas, not authority. You have to convince them that this strategy will improve the team’s game. ”
One of his superstars is considered a hot contender for the Ballon d’Or. Jorginho, who won the Champions League with him and became European champion with Italy, has already been named Europe’s Footballer of the Year.
“I’m not a big fan of single prizes. But I’m sure that if I say that he doesn’t deserve the bonus, he would be angry, ”said Tuchel with a laugh.
The reigning Champions League winner also spoke about the Italian league, which he still lacks in his résumé. Here Tuchel went into raptures: “The Serie A is an extremely interesting league today, there are many teams with game ideas that are based on intensity and quality, like Atalanta Bergamo.”
Who knows, maybe one day the German will play in the fourth European top division.
