Thibau Nys has had successful surgery: “I hope to cycle this weekend” | Cyclocross

Nys hit the ground hard on the second lap in the WB cyclo-cross of Waterloo. He broke his left collarbone and was flown to Belgium almost immediately for surgery.

On Tuesday, 18-year-old Nys, European road champion, went under the knife in Herentals. “I went to AZ Herentals immediately after landing in Brussels. I was lucky that I could immediately go on the operating table with doctor Toon Claes,” says Nys two days later.

“The operation actually went very smoothly. They applied a plate to fix the collarbone.”

How is Nys doing now? “The first moments after the operation I still felt very tired. I slept a lot in the past 48 hours. The first night I slept in the hospital, two days later I already feel progress.”

“I can now make more movements and the left arm already feels more flexible. I am very hopeful that I will be able to cycle quietly on the rollers this weekend and build up systematically. We have agreed with Toon Claes to have a check in two weeks. -up. Then we’ll see together when a comeback in the field becomes possible.”
