The story almost too crazy to be true about Michael Jordan

As legendary as its status, Michael Jordan’s career is accompanied by countless anecdotes, each crazier than the next. The one told by the former hockey star Jeremy Roenick stands out despite everything by its aspect… unreal.

As talented as he could be on the league floors, basketball was far from being the only love of Michael Jordan in life. The documentary The Last Dance which is devoted to him has indeed allowed to prove it. His passion for cigars or even beautiful cars will not, however, be the subject of this article. Here, it is golf and betting that will be discussed.

A big fan of the little white ball, MJ used to mix this hobby with that which linked him to gambling. He therefore often bet large sums with other renowned sportsmen on the greens. Former hockey player Jeremy Roenick, Chicago Blackhawks icon, was one of his favorite opponents. The latter also told a beautiful story of the genre, during his time on the airwaves of 670 The Score.

Back in the ’90s, when the Bulls were on fire, it was the end of the season for us, and the end of the season for them too. I get a call from Michael, who says, “Meet me at Sunset Ridge, we’re gonna take a ride.” We didn’t have a match planned, we were at rest. So I found him at Sunset Ridge, we played, I took a few thousand bucks from him, and I was good to go.

The Bulls were playing that night against Cleveland, so I thought he was going to leave! It was already 10 a.m. “No, let’s play again! So we filled a cooler with beers, and off we went for a ride! I still won a few thousand dollars. We had been drinking all afternoon, and now he had to make the trip from the country club to the stadium, to play a game!

The anecdote could have ended there, with a Jeremy Roenick who would have taken full advantage of his day off, by stripping Jordan in golf. It was bad to know the leader of the Bulls, who quickly seized the opportunity to remake himself, and to emerge a winner of all this confrontation. Rather than let him slip away at the United Center, Roenick indeed launched a small bet … and ended up deeply regretting it!

When Michael Jordan slaughtered the Cavaliers … drunk

At that point, I laughed at him a bit, saying, “I’m going to call my bookie and tell him to put all the money you made me make on Cleveland!” He replied, “I’ll explain how it’s going to be.” I bet we will win more than 20 points, and that I will register more than 40 points. This motherfucker planted 52 and won by 26 points, after 36 holes of golf and 10 Bud Lights!

The memory of Roenick fails him slightly, since in March 28, 1992, MJ was satisfied with 44 points, and a victory with 24 points in advance against the Cavs. Sufficient despite everything to honor his bet, and make his torturer of the greens lose the fortune he had just accumulated. No hard feelings for the former NHL star.

For me, Michael Jordan is probably the greatest sportsman I have ever seen, worked with and seen play. The way he behaves and plays… This man was just amazing.

A simply unbelievable story, which Michael Jordan has yet made reality. Decidedly, the poor Cavaliers could not even take advantage of favorable circumstances to avoid humiliation in the face of His Airness!
