The Real Madrid cannot with the Unics

Two Heurtel losses doom the whites in the last minute

MADRID, 29 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Real Madrid signed a poor game this Friday during their visit to Unics Kazan, the second of the ‘mini-tour’ for Russia, and lost 65-58 in a duel marked by offensive shortages and by the two losses of Thomas Heurtel in the last minute they threw any option of the merengue team to the ground.

The 10-time European champion did not have his best afternoon against Unics and left his job in Russia halfway through after beating Zenit three days ago. A defeat that could be seen coming because of how Velimir Perasovic’s men short-circuited the meringues attack. The duel – more typical of the preseason – was defined by errors.

Laso’s pupils had up to nine losses in the first two quarters, and a dwarfed rebound against an opponent with more hunger and springs on their feet. Mario Hezonja and Andrey Vorontsevich soon gave a good account of it, although Madrid never lost their face to the match. From the initial 10-5 to 35-29 on the brink of halftime, a situation that Llull amended to leave the meager difference at 20 minutes.

The 35-34 gave strength to a Real Madrid that grew, as always, with the points of Edy Tavares, but also with his strength to drag any ball without an owner in the rival paint. A triple by Abalde with 12 minutes to go seemed the final takeoff for the meringues, but nothing could be further from reality (55-58).

Unics went back to betting on the inside game, did not get carried away by the forced shot and ended up finding the way to keep the game tight until the last minute. It was then, after the Whites wasted up to three attacks, that Heurtel lost the ball giving his rival two points and the win.

On the next play, exactly the same, which ended up sinking Laso’s pupils, who conceded their second defeat of the course in the Euroleague and the second also in the last three games adding the Endesa League. Even so, Real Madrid will continue to be in the playoff positions with a 5-2 balance.
