The quadruple-double negative, the other specialty of Russell Westbrook | NBA

On February 17, 1994, David Robinson made the fourth and last quadruple-double in NBA history. Since then, no player has managed to compile at least 10 points, 10 assists, 10 rebounds and 10 blocks or interceptions in the same game. Some have approached it, with a few blocks or interceptions, and others have clearly achieved quadruple-double “negative” which are obviously not counted.

Behind this term, we group the triple-double wasted by 10 stray balls and more. Since 1979, there have been 18 quadruple-doubles “negatives”, and the specialist in the genre is none other than Russell Westbrook.

This night, against the Thunder, the leader of the Lakers compiled 20 points, 14 rebounds and 13 assists and therefore 10 stray balls. This is the sixth time he has made this “performance”, and it is twice as much as his runner-up, James Harden.

Former Thunder teammates, and MVP in 2017 and 2018, Russell Westbrook and James Harden are not the only ones to have achieved several quadruple-double “negatives” in career, since we also find Magic Johnson (2).

Behind this trio, seven other players also achieved “triple-double” completed with at least 10 stray balls, and they are Maurice Lucas, LeBron James, Blake Griffin, Jason Kidd, Nikola Jokic, Clyde Drexler and Charles Barkley. But there are undoubtedly many others in NBA history, the problem being that ball losses have only been systematically recorded since 1983.
