The Martial Arts Center of Floridia present at the two days dedicated to Chanbara

Two days of training seminars for technicians, concluded with a “competition” for children. This is the weekend dedicated to Chanbara in Catania where on Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 October the National Federation met at the Dojo Judo Club Yamato, of Masters Francesco Cirnigliaro and Domenico Corsaro, for a few hours of sport.

The event was attended by the national technical director, Maestro Diego Falco, the general secretary Mario Baldi and the athletes of the Italian national team Annachiara Contesimo and Sara Di Nicola, holders of the title of world champions.

Born in Sicily in the nineties, to then “go out” and spread to various parts of the world, chanbara “returned” home during the pandemic, establishing itself mainly among children.

“With the pandemic we expected to“ disappear ”instead our memberships have increased – admits Mario Baldi -. It is an easy to approach discipline for the little ones, with a martial type line but few rules and with “soft” weapons, getting hurt is impossible “.

Since 2002, Italian athletes have participated in 16 world championships, triumphing in 5 of these, and in 8 European competitions, establishing themselves as one of the strongest national teams in the world.

“It is a sport that comes from the traditional Japanese martial arts, the son of kendo and all disciplines with weapons, from which the essence was taken, therefore the combat, to which weapons were added, 12 types for the accuracy, soft and pneumatic that cannot hurt but only entertain ” explains Maestro Cirnigliaro.

To represent the province of Syracuse, the Martial Arts Center of Floridia, by Maestro Silvio Cannamela with his youngest athletes, two of whom also became instructors, who “performed” on the tatami.
