“Surprisingly” – Bayern Munich Director Hasan Salihamidzic Shocked His Team Shaved 5-0

Bayern lowered their best strength against Borussia Monchengladbach, but instead conceded five times without being able to reply.

Bayern Munich suffered its worst defeat in the DFB-Pokal event on Thursday (28/10) early this morning after being beaten 5-0 at the hands of Borussia Monchengladbach.

Gladbach was able to take the lead quickly in the second minute and keep things 3-0 in the 21st minute. It was the fastest three goals conceded by the German giants in the domestic cup event.

In last night’s game, Ramy Bensebaini and Breel Embolo each scored brace for the home team, while Kouadio Kone did not miss his name on the scoreboard.

Unexpected

“I was really surprised,” Bayern sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic told ARD after the game. “We can’t compete. In their every situation [Gladbach] tougher than us.

“It was a collective failure. It is inexplicable. We know it is always difficult at Gladbach, we discussed it before. Everything is difficult to explain, I have to be honest.”

Salihamidzic denied that the absence of head coach Julian Nagelsmann, who is currently recovering from Covid-19, had any bearing on the result.

“Of course we want the coach to be there. But the defeat had nothing to do with Dino, we couldn’t fight a duel at all.”

Everything that can go wrong is really wrong. This has nothing to do with [absennya] coach today.”

Historic Defeat

Bayern’s defeat marked the second straight season they were knocked out of the DFB-Pokal in the last 32.

Now for the first time since 1994/95 and 1995/96 Bayern have failed to reach the last 16 of the DFB-Pokal in successive seasons.

Moreover, it is the first time Bayern have lost any match by at least five goals since Fortuna Dusseldorf thrashed them 7-1 in the Bundesliga in 1978.
