Andreas Seppi reached the semi-finals of the Challenger tournament in Mouilleron-Le-Captif (France). Against Quentin Halys, the Kalterer drove a three-set victory.

Seppi is not only fighting for the finals in France, but also to stay in the top 100 of the world rankings. The win against Halys (ATP 158) on Friday afternoon was a step in the right direction. Seppi won 2: 6, 7: 6 (8: 6), 6: 3.

The South Tyrolean veteran did not start well against Halys and gave up his first service game. The Frenchman secured another break with a score of 3: 1, so that he could clearly win the first set 6: 2. The service game by Halys was impressive, collecting a whopping 21 (!) Aces in the course of the game. For comparison: Seppi managed an ace.

Seppi turns the match

The second movement turned into a crime thriller. Seppi walked on the verge of defeat, but was able to fend off two extremely important breakballs with a score of 5: 5. It is quite possible that the match would not have gone into the decisive third set if Halys had used one of these two break opportunities. But as it was, Seppi won the second set in the tie-break 7: 6 (8: 6).

While Halys made a few mistakes in concentration in the third set, Seppi proved his marathon man qualities. The Kalterer took the serve from the French twice and pulled away with it. Halys did not give up, fended off a total of five match points and even managed a re-break, but finally Seppi converted his sixth match point to the decisive 6: 3 in the third set. In the semifinals on Saturday, Seppi will face the Czech Jiri Vesely (ATP 84).
