Sebastián Ducos is the first sailor to be proclaimed champion of the Vivida Wing Foil Spain Series circuit in the Open Pro category after having held the four regattas that made up the event in 2021. The Dianense has won two of the four events on the calendar at win in S’Arenal (Mallorca) and El Perelló (Valencia). In the Open Advance category, the winner was also Denia sailor Diego Barona.

Ducos and the rest of the fleet that met this weekend in Formentera in the three classes in competition have been affected by the absence of wind that has not allowed a single test of the calendar scheduled for the weekend to be carried out. The test has been organized thanks to the collaboration of the sponsors of the circuit, the Club de Vela Formentera and with the special support in this test of Balearia and the Consell Insular de Formentera.

Both on Saturday and Sunday the regatta committee headed by Alex Durán had to be very patient to try to start. While on Saturday some possibility was glimpsed and even the sailors were sent into the water, although in the end they returned in white, today it was impossible due to the almost total absence of wind on Illetes beach where the race was scheduled to take place.

Ducos has been proclaimed the just winner of the circuit after winning the two tests in which he has been able to participate. On the final podium of the season, the Dianense was accompanied by Pedro Ponce and Andrés Sánchez.

One week in Formentera

The young promise of Spanish sailing has shown an overwhelming dominance over the rest of the fleet, showing that he is one of the best sailors in Spain in the specialty of foil since he is also one of the best in the country in the specialty of KiteFoil. “Nothing could be done. It’s a shame, but it can happen. Today was cloudy and sparkling and we did not have the minimum conditions to be able to dribble. It is a pleasure and an honor to be the first champion and it is an honor and I am already thinking about next year to be able to revalidate the title. This is a competition in which you go out more to enjoy than to compete, that is in the background, not like in the FKSS in which you go with the knife in your mouth. It is a super accessible specialty, you can do it from anywhere and if there is no wind you float, if you get wet nothing happens and it is easy for anyone to learn. This week I am staying to train for the Cutty Sark FKSS regatta. It would be nice to also make the podium at the end of the season in the kite regatta “, said.

Obviously, in Formentera it has not been possible to celebrate the regattas of the Open Advance and Open Amateur specialties. In Advance, the great beneficiary has been Diego Barona who, despite not being in Formentera, has finally been able to assert his results in the previous Denia and El Perelló regattas, with victory in his own waters, to be the first winner of the class . On the final podium of the season he was accompanied by the Belgian Pier de Groode and the Italian Carlo Terruzzi who won at El Perelló.

Support from sponsors and venues

The organization of the regatta hopes that conditions will change next weekend since the fifth test of the season of the Cutty Sark FKSS is scheduled to take place in this same location, which will bring together more than fifty sailors of the specialty of the Olympic KiteFoil. Sergio W Smit, director of the circuit, explained: “We believe that the circuit has met most of the objectives that it had set at the beginning of its first season, which makes us very happy. What makes us most happy is that the almost fifty sailors who have passed through our four events have enjoyed the specialty and together we have been able to do regattas that have been adapted to the needs that we saw that the sailors were going to us. posing. It has been a good test bed for the first season in a specialty in which we are convinced that there is a very wide route with a growing hobby in a very accessible, dynamic and fun sport. Thanks to Vivida, the rest of our sponsors and the four venues we have made possible the celebration of this circuit “.

Asier Fernández de Bobadilla, director of the Club Vela Formentera explained about the climatic situation in Formentera: “Here, at this time, the southwest and west winds of 15 to 30 knots are common. There may be some days with little wind, but we have been calm for 12 days and that is not usual. It is a tremendous pity that people come here to enjoy the regatta and the island and that they have not been able to navigate in this paradisiacal place, here the navigation is extraordinary and we would have loved if the sailors had enjoyed everything it offers Formentera “.
