Ronald Koeman sacked at FC Barcelona after another defeat

by archysport

Barcelona is currently ninth in the Spanish league table. The final straw for the club’s board was last night’s defeat against Rayo Vallecano (1-0). Last weekend, Koeman’s team lost 2-1 to arch-rival Real Madrid.

Former player

Due to the poor results, Koeman had been under fire for a while at the club that he helped to the European Cup I as a player in 1992. Also in the Champions League, the successor to that tournament, the start was bad with defeats against Bayern Munich and Benfica.

The 58-year-old Koeman left his job as national coach of the Dutch national team last year to become the trainer of his dream club Barcelona. There he saw star player Lionel Messi leave at the start of this season. The club is currently heavily indebted.

Statement Barcelona

Barcelona announced Koeman’s departure in a short message on the website. “The club’s president, Joan Laporta, informed him after the defeat to Rayo Vallecano. Ronald Koeman will say goodbye to the team on Thursday. FC Barcelona would like to thank him for his services and wish him success in his career.”

It is not yet known who will succeed Koeman.
