Front-runner Rot-Weiss Essen has returned to the road to success. In the Westschlager against Alemannia Aachen there was a 2-1 victory – in the very last second of the game.
What a drama! Red and white food has returned to the road to success in the Regionalliga West and won the western hit against Alemannia Aachen 2-1 in front of over 11,000 spectators. The winning goal from Felix Herzbruch fell at the very last second.
Christian Neidhart reacted to the English Week and changed his starting line-up compared to the Düsseldorf game (3: 3) to three positions. Zlatko Janjic, Erolind Krasniqi and Niklas Tarnat played for Simon Engelmann, Oguzhan Kefkir and Luca Dürholtz. And the idea of giving the best RWE goalscorer a break immediately worked.
Janjic takes care of the early lead
Only seven minutes were played when veteran Janjic, who already scored in Düsseldorf after being substituted on, scored the 1-0. The 35-year-old headed a good cross from Cedric Harenbrock. It took until the final phase when RWE had another huge opportunity. But Engelmann failed to guest keeper Joshua Mroß. In stoppage time, RWE pressed on, there were three more corners. And the last scene of the game was supposed to shake Hafenstrasse: Felix Herzenbruch somehow poked the ball over the line in the 95th minute – the referee didn’t whistle at all.
With the win, RWE remains the front runner. It continues for the Neidhart-Elf next Friday (7 p.m.) at Borussia Mönchengladbach II – not in the Grenzlandstadion, but in Borussia-Park.
