Rio de Janeiro ATP 500 returns

It’s official: the Rio Open will be back in Brazil. The most important tennis tournament in South America, being ATP 500, was confirmed by the organization itself.

The event will be played from February 12 to 20, at the Jockey Club Brasileiro, in Rio de Janeiro, to once again be the scene of the matches between big names that will contest the title of one of the 13 ATP 500 championships.

After a year without the event, the organization will follow all the sanitary protocols in force in the city to guarantee the safety of those present.

The Rio Open is one of three ATP 500 level events played on clay, along with Hamburg and Barcelona.

In its history it has champions like Rafael Nadal, David Ferrer, Pablo Cuevas, Dominic Thiem, Diego Schwartzman and Cristian Garin. In its seven editions, Kei Nishikori, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, John Isner, Marin Cilic, Gael Monfils, Fabio Fognini, Felix Auger-Aliassime and Carlos Alcaraz also participated., among others.
