SANTO DOMINGO.– The Dominican Republic closed its participation in the V International Badminton Championship Santo Domingo Junior 2021, with a whopping three gold, two silver and seven bronze medals, in the event organized by the Dominican Federation of this discipline and it is developed at the Table Tennis Pavilion in Parque del Este, under the auspices of YONEX, the Pan American Badminton Confederation, the Ministry of Sports and the Dominican Olympic Committee.

The golden headbands came thanks to Daniela Acosta, who equaled Nairobi Jiménez’s record in this event by taking first place in all three modalities. In a women’s single, she defeated the Costa Rican Ana Laura Martínez Vega, in runs of 21-6, 21-17; the second came pairing with Estefany Castillo by dominating in the final over Martinez Vega and Cristal Villareal, from Costa Rica, in sets of23-21, 21-13; and the third, which was the most disputed, together with Ernick Zorrila, they won a three-set battle against Colombian Luis Chacón and his Dominican archrival Lía Lockward, with a score of 19-21, 21-14, 21-14.
