Chelsea laughing, City crying. This is how to sum up this multiplex of the 10th day of the Premier League, this Saturday. Eliminated to everyone’s surprise in the cup, the Citizens did not raise the lead in the league at home against Crystal Palace (0-2). With an error and a red card from Aymeric Laporte before the break, Manchester City made the bad operation of the day. Pep Guardiola’s men are now five points behind Chelsea, easy winner of Newcastle (3-0).
However, before the meeting, nothing foreshadowed such a rout of Manchester City against one of the worst teams of the season away. Despite the specter of the Champions League next week, Guardiola did not hesitate to put his typical team. In this three-man race for the title, no misstep is advised and the Mancunian club has had the bitter experience of it. With only three shots on target in the game, Kevin de Bruyne’s teammates have not shown the conquering face of the past few weeks. It must be said that Aymeric Laporte did not really facilitate the task of his partners.
City takes the door

First, by losing a dangerous ball which benefited Zaha (5th) then by being overtaken by the English striker before the break. A delay synonymous with exclusion which almost decided the outcome of the meeting. If Gabriel Jesus was denied an equalizer goal for a knee too far from Foden, Crystal Palace played their score wonderfully and sealed their victory late in the game by Gallagher. For his return to Manchester, Patrick Vieira could not have hoped for better.
Liverpool have completely cracked
The final conclusion could have been quite different if the Reds had not done anything. A real machine to roll over his opponents for a few weeks, Jürgen Klopp’s men gave the impression of continuing their momentum. After only thirty minutes of play, Henderson (5th) and Mané (24th) gave a nice mattress to theirs. Head underwater, Brighton did not deserve it and continued to play his offensive game praised by Graham Potter.
The Seagulls took it well, even with Maupay on the bench, capsizing the opposing ship in the second half. Perhaps too sure of their strength, Salah’s teammates saw their lead melt like snow in the sun under a flash of genius from Mwepu (43rd) at 25m then under the gait of Trossard (2-2, 65th), who could have completely silenced Anfield with ten minutes remaining if he had chosen not to rush his appeal. Two points lost for the Reds, three for the Citizens and it is Chelsea who can have a smile.
Chelsea in control
If the French coach had to wait until the last minutes to fully savor his master stroke, Thomas Tuchel did not have to tremble. Leader before the start of this 10th day, Chelsea carried out a very good operation. While City bit the dust at home and Liverpool found a way to get caught up by Brighton, the Blues rolled into Newcastle.
Facing the red lantern, the teammates of N’Golo Kanté, who was playing his 200th game for the London club, were not sparkling. But they pressed when it took to bring the Magpies with both knees to the ground. As in midweek, the London salute came from Reece James. Author of the victorious goal in the cup, the English right side did it again this weekend with two beautiful half-volleys (65th, 77th) which removed a beautiful thorn from Chelsea’s foot. Thanks to this great success (3-0), the Blues are now five points ahead of Manchester City and three over Liverpool.
