Pandemic – Around a third of tennis professionals are not vaccinated

According to the professional organizations, around a third of tennis professionals are not vaccinated against Covid-19.

The share of vaccinated players is currently around 65 percent, writes the German press agency with reference to the ATP, the professional organization in men’s tennis. The WTA association stated that “more than 60 percent” of the women ‘s players had full vaccination against the corona virus.

The vaccination status in tennis is an issue, especially against the background of the Australian Open, which begins in mid-January. The first Grand Slam tournament of the new season is to be held in Melbourne. It is currently unclear whether unvaccinated tennis professionals will be admitted. Australian media recently quoted from a leaked e-mail from the national association Tennis Australia, according to which players without full vaccination are allowed to enter Melbourne, but then have to be in strict hotel quarantine for two weeks. Vaccinated professionals, on the other hand, only need one corona test before departure and one within 24 hours after arrival. After that, they could move freely.
