Olot celebrates its centenary with the opening of the club’s exhibition

The Unió Esportiva Olot celebrated, just yesterday, a century of history. At two quarters of an hour on the afternoon of October 30, a hundred years ago, the ball began to roll between the then FC Olot, the first name that the entity had, against Casal Marià. Although the Garrotxa club has been celebrating its centenary with different events – all of which the pandemic has allowed – yesterday was one of the highlights, with the opening of the exhibition “Olot. One hundred years of a football club ”in the Open Room of the Garrotxa Museum.

The exhibition, which can be visited free of charge until 9 January, reviews the history of the Garrotxa club. Deeply rooted in the territory through social projects, the Unió Esportiva Olot has not been exempt from sporting, cultural and political changes. All these ups and downs are reflected in the exhibition through a historical retrospective.

The sample is articulated in two totally different spaces. In the first, the history of the institution is presented. Through panels, photographs and textual documents, the visitor will be able to immerse themselves chronologically in the evolution of the entity, with a special role for members, fans, managers, all or players who allowed Olot to move forward. In the second space, in which a ground football field is recreated, there are different elements of celebration of the club, between which the five glasses by the obtained titles, between which they emphasize the one of champion of 3a Division. In addition, the wall of this space is made up of 1200 photographs of all the players who have gone through the history of the club. Despite the task of recovery and historical research, some are still empty, but Olot will allow those people who have the missing photos to finish the wall, as if it were a giant collaborative collection . In this corner, you can also see the documentary Memories of the Olot Sports Union, made especially for the centenary.

The opening ceremony brought together about fifty people in the Patio de l’Hospici, including the current president of the club, Joan Agustí, the mayor of Olot, Pep Berga and the president of the Centenary Commission, Carles Llorens. All of them emphasized the club’s social vocation in the city and the region. Agustí was firm and stated: “We will maintain a formative, competitive, social and educational commitment. A country project that is needed in Catalan football ». Llorens also highlighted the research exercise: “We have done an exercise in recovering historical memory, removing from oblivion so many stories.”

Crowds of players, former players and Catalan teams in the category took the opportunity to congratulate the Olot Sports Union on social media for its centenary.
