As a small, nimble, brisk wisp on the basketball field, he is still well known to all fans of the BG Göttingen. Now Bennet Hundt (23) is returning to the Sparkassen-Arena for the second time in the squad of another first division club.

Göttingen – On Sunday (3 p.m.) Hundt and his new team EWE Baskets Oldenburg will be at the Veilchen.

“I’m looking forward to playing in front of fans in Göttingen,” says Hundt, who left the BG for Bamberg just a year before last season – together with former BG coach Johan Roijakkers and Dominik Lockhart. After only one season, his time in Franconia was over again. “My contract has expired,” Hundt looks back. Of course, other clubs are also aware of this. So the Oldenburg inquiries about Hundt’s player agent and invited him to the city on the Hunte. A city tour, a long conversation and a training session with Baskets coach Mladen Dijencic – “that made a good impression,” said the playmaker, who is only 1.80 m tall.

But it was also “a difficult decision” to move to Oldenburg. “I felt comfortable in Bamberg,” said Hundt. Because around him was the “whole Göttingen clique” with assistant coach van der Zweep, athletics coach Theodorou and supervisor Enzo Neck and analyst Julian Meier. Under no circumstances was he divorced from Bamberg in disagreement.

So now Oldenburg! For the first time, the signs between the BG and the Baskets are reversed: Göttingen fourth, Oldenburg penultimate with only one win but four defeats. “We are still in the discovery phase. The 1: 4 record sounds bad, but there wasn’t a lot missing in the games we lost. We had a few bad phases in the games and gave up our rhythm, ”said Hundt, explaining the weak record so far.

The second ex-BGer in the Oldenburg team is Tai Odiase (BG coach Moors: “A pleasant person!”). “I get on well with Tai,” says Hundt, who experienced one of his highlights in the BG dress at the championship tournament in Munich in June 2020 when he scored 30 points against Crailsheim in the first game. Odiase is curious what it is like to play in front of spectators in Göttingen. The new Baskets-Center could not experience that last season because of the fan exclusion.

Hundt also has another game in mind: The penultimate season the BG started with six bankruptcies – then came Oldenburg, which surprised the Veilchen with a 104-87 victory, Hundt contributed five points. “This time the pressure is different: Göttingen can play freely,” says Hundt. Oldenburg, on the other hand, absolutely needs the second win of the season.

. The former Oldenburg Haris Hujic is also back at the BG. “Oldenburg is better than the table position,” warns BG coach Moors. For Baskets “veteran” Rickey Paulding (39) it will be the last appearance at BG – he will end his career. (Helmut Anschütz / gsd)
